The Lab Technician is responsible for assisting with the general oversight and development of the Quality Assurance Department at 8th Wonder brewery. An important part of the production team, the Lab Technician will collect and test raw material, production and final product samples, as well as analyze data, design and implement control systems, and ensure quality of product.
Aseptic collection of samples
Yeast analysis including cell counts, yeast health, and pitch data
Conduct thorough microbiological analysis
Preparation of media and reagents
Sterilization of various equipment and sample bottles
Perform water testing as needed
Set and perform quality control checks through all production processes
Collect quantifiable, post-production data
Ability to present data effectively to production team
Follow up on all field quality incident reports
Lead our ever-growing sensory program
Calibration of instrumentation
Monitor and file fermentation data in proper software
Update SOPs for all current lab procedures and testing
Create new SOPs for new procedures, tests, and quality checkpoints
Manage lab interns and internship programs
Bachelors of Science in microbiology, chemistry, food science, or a related field, or equivalent quality control/quality assurance experience in the brewing or beverage/food industry
Previous experience with a microscope, Cellometer, thermal cycler, and microbiological media is a plus.
Must be able to make independent, executive decisions regarding quality of product
Must possess excellent communication skills
Must be proficient in Excel, Word and Powerpoint
Must be able to organize and analyze a variety of data
